Devin did AMAZING at the dentist! We got off to a great start, as we walked through the doors and saw this....
Her continuing
Photography lesson #214--Dentist office light is very tricky. Bright in general and VERY bright when the light's on. So, I'm less than thrilled with these.
Once inside, Heidi was wonderful! Very patient and slow with each thing she did. Although the entire practice was extremely busy, she took the time to let Devin get comfortable.
Apparently some kids like to wear sunglasses to help with the bright light...
Not Devin.
I was, in a word, amazed. This was a thorough exam.
She complied to every request, with no tears, for 15 minutes. Which is actually pretty good for any setting, much less a Dentist's chair.
Now the not-so-good news. Dev's teeth are not in good shape. There are 7 total cavities, the front ones are significant. I guess in their world, this is no big deal. Because in mine, I feel awful. Their best guess as to cause, is heredity and fruit juice. I can't do much about the genes, but we've been instructed to cut out juice entirely. She can have 1 small GLASS of juice with breakfast in the morning and brush immediately after. Sippy cups of water are fine, binky at night is fine....
What to do? They will all have to be filled. At this age, they do not like to use Novacaine, so she will get small amounts of NO2. If she stays calm and breathes in the NO2, Dr. said sometimes they can get lots done at once. Sometimes, it's a battle one at a time. Also, at some point she will most likely need a small surgery to remove some excess skin between her 2 front teeth. It's causing them to come in further apart. (Like teen years before the likely braces)
She didn't like the time waiting between the cleaning and when the Dentist takes a look. I said, "all done" too soon. She let out a few office-rattling screams to express her displeasure. But, overall her 1st trip to the dentist was pretty low on the Devin trauma scale.
Going for Sushi lunch was WAY WAY WAY more fun. Devin chose a brand new restaurant called Hiko-A-Mon. It's in a new upscale, outdoor shopping center. Lots of cool, local shops and eateries going in. NO big chains! (Well, Qdoba is a medium chain)
Quite a morning.
