This is the 1st trip to Peoria, where Devin remembers where we're going and why!
Therefore...
If I had a $1.00 for every time I've heard "Pa-Pa's House" this week, mama could get a new pair of shoes...
It's hard to explain when, to a person with no concept of time.
We'll have lots of pictures!

I forgot about these pictures
Finger painting with Devin always ends up being MUCH more than fingers...

Just a pretty Hibiscus bloom at Wal Mart of all places.

I think this is the cutest 4th of July dress EVER. Which obviously means, Devin won't like wearing it...
Something about it isn't comfortable, but she obliged me for a few pictures.

Whew!
Shall I share the good news first?
Devin did AMAZING at the dentist! We got off to a great start, as we walked through the doors and saw this....

Her continuing interest obsession with all things train, made for an easy 45 minute wait. There were 5-10 other kids in waiting room of all ages...though Devin was the youngest.

Photography lesson #214--Dentist office light is very tricky. Bright in general and VERY bright when the light's on. So, I'm less than thrilled with these.
Once inside, Heidi was wonderful! Very patient and slow with each thing she did. Although the entire practice was extremely busy, she took the time to let Devin get comfortable.

Apparently some kids like to wear sunglasses to help with the bright light...

Not Devin.

I was, in a word, amazed. This was a thorough exam.

She complied to every request, with no tears, for 15 minutes. Which is actually pretty good for any setting, much less a Dentist's chair.
Now the not-so-good news. Dev's teeth are not in good shape. There are 7 total cavities, the front ones are significant. I guess in their world, this is no big deal. Because in mine, I feel awful. Their best guess as to cause, is heredity and fruit juice. I can't do much about the genes, but we've been instructed to cut out juice entirely. She can have 1 small GLASS of juice with breakfast in the morning and brush immediately after. Sippy cups of water are fine, binky at night is fine....
What to do? They will all have to be filled. At this age, they do not like to use Novacaine, so she will get small amounts of NO2. If she stays calm and breathes in the NO2, Dr. said sometimes they can get lots done at once. Sometimes, it's a battle one at a time. Also, at some point she will most likely need a small surgery to remove some excess skin between her 2 front teeth. It's causing them to come in further apart. (Like teen years before the likely braces)
She didn't like the time waiting between the cleaning and when the Dentist takes a look. I said, "all done" too soon. She let out a few office-rattling screams to express her displeasure. But, overall her 1st trip to the dentist was pretty low on the Devin trauma scale.

Going for Sushi lunch was WAY WAY WAY more fun. Devin chose a brand new restaurant called Hiko-A-Mon. It's in a new upscale, outdoor shopping center. Lots of cool, local shops and eateries going in. NO big chains! (Well, Qdoba is a medium chain)

Quite a morning.

This Should Be Interesting
I scheduled Devin's 1st dentist appointment. The receptionist said they could see her sometime in September. Luckily, 13 years in pharma wasn't an entire waste...I know just how to sweet talk the front office staff.
Our appt. is 10:15 am tomorrow.
Hopefully, we'll get some ideas about what's going on with her front teeth. We followed all the typical "rules." (No bottles in bed, stopped the bottle at one-year, etc.) She loves her orange juice, though.
Some random pictures from today....

Wish us luck

Oh. My. God. The Gordita Trailor...

We were the only people around who spoke English as their 1st language. (Always a good sign when you're eating an International cuisine)
The SUV in the corner blairs authentic music...whatever the chef likes.
Something really unusual...you order your food and they don't immediately ask for money. It's like they KNOW you will order more. Which we did.
Note: The Cokes are the real thing. "Mexican Cokes." Meaning, the sweetener is actual pure cane sugar...not HFC. (High Fructose Corn Syrup) It was quite the meal. If anyone was out of place, it was us.
Devin has done 180's on a few topics.
-She used to be scared of the carwash...now she demands it! "COLORS!" (You know...the candy-colored foam)
-Haircuts
-Star Shoes (Sandals that used to make her scream for mercy)
St. Matthew's Farmer's Market

We (Dev, GG & I) went to the market, so Matt could sleep in. This is a wonderful market in the St. Matthew's area, directly across from the 1st branch Matt worked in after our move to Louisville. This particular church is far more organized and spacious than the Bardstown Rd. location.
No dogs allowed...although we saw and pet one.

We saw chickens...

We fed chickens...

We ate chicken for lunch. Sorry chickens.
Some other yummy looking things...

Dev colored a kitty, while I bought some organic soap.

We ate breakfast and spent way too much $$. Dev had a great time...priceless.
Arrived home to a super house cleaning Matt. Music blaring, bass thumping, clean kitchen, folded laundry, dishes put away with next load washing...never did get back to sleep.

Raining on the 4th of July? How very un-American.
Secretly, I'm happy...the garden and lawn were desperate for a drink and I'm not paying for much extra water this year.
Anyway, Matt wanted some "real" fireworks for our celebration. This requires crossing the border into Indiana. We decided to drive to Mariann's, for some World Famous Pancakes.

Ga-Ga went with us...it's hard to turn down Fireworks & Pancakes.

I gotta admit, those are some really good pancakes.

We filled up the car at the gas station across the street. I mean, at $4.05/gallon we couldn't pass up that bargain. (It's $4.25 in metro Louisville)

And, who doesn't love a good 4th of July cupcake?
We had an atypical dinner of Surf n' Turf. Crab legs & Filet for Mom and me, just crab for Devin and just steak for Matt. It was a great dinner...eating outside in the rain, under the gazebo.
It stopped raining just enough to light off few fireworks for Devin.
